Back Story
Rapper Curren$y took to Instagram to announce his new mixtape, “Fire in the Clouds”. In addition to that, the New Orleans rapper also revealed that he’s giving fans the opportunity to design/draw the project’s cover art.
This opportunity served as a great exercise.
Instructions
“Go to my soundcloud and live with those last records I dropped produced by @drupey_collins they are part of special collection I’m releasing in August on all platforms titled “Fire In The Clouds” I have unreleased tracks that we will add to the already released songs to make a 8-10 song project … listen to ones already available and show me what the sounds look like…. dig??? Solid!!!! Post and tag when ur ready.” -Curren$y
The Thought Process
With the instructions given, I wanted to include common references for his songs, the title, and things that made Curren$y who he was. Since he was a New Orleans native, I wanted to add some essence of the city to the design. The clouds and fire were obvious and simple choices to add to the artwork because of the mix-tape’s name. Water was also added to the design to give more texture and depth by using it’s horizon and waves.
